Papers, 1891-1977.

This collection contains letters, postcards, newspaper clippings, and copies of six photograph albums. Included are prints and negatives copied from the family albums that concern the Staser and Thies families, especially Harry and Bruce Staser and Betty Jo Thies Staser. They depict early Anchorage and Fairbanks as well as school life at the University of Alaska.

Bruce Ingle Staser, son of Harry and Barbara Staser, was born in Anchorage, Alaska, in 1919. He attended the University of Alaska (1937-1941), and graduated from the United States Military Academy (1944) and the University of Wisconsin (M.A. 1960). He married Betty Jo Thies (1944) and served in the army (1944-1973), retiring with the rank of colonel. He was appointed adjutant general of the Alaska National Guard by Governor Egan with the rank of major-general, and later became executive assistan...

Staser, Harry I.

Harry I. Staser was born in Indiana in 1891. He made several trips to Alaska (1910-1912) and then moved to Fairbanks (1912). He served in World War I. He later studied mining and returned to Alaska (1919). Harry Staser served in the Alaska Territorial House of Representatives in the early 1920s. He worked in various gold mines and was a deputy marshal in Anchorage (1923-1933). He purchased and operated a gold mine near Girdwood and died there in 1940. His wife, Barbara, died in 1953. ...
